In business it is usual to focus mainly on business objectives and achieving planned results. However, we should not forget the impact our work has on the world around us. We are aware of our responsibility, and so we try to ensure that a part of our activities involves working with people who need our cooperation the most.
Near to our company’s head office is the Modrý klíč (Blue Key) sheltered workshop, with which we have worked for many years. Sheltered workshops aim to give the disabled a chance to join the working process and discover what it feels like to be successful and useful for society. For many disabled people it is not easy to find employment, despite their willingness to work. For that reason sheltered workshops have been set up, giving disabled people an opportunity to learn about the working process and develop their skills, independence and social integration. Some of them can then enter into regular employment. Although not everyone is successful in doing so, sheltered workshops can help integrate disabled people into society and counter feelings of redundancy among people who would otherwise remain isolated in institutional care.
BSC PRAHA has worked with Modrý klíč since the early 1990s. We regularly buy its handmade Christmas cards, which we send to our business partners each year.
The other field where we have decided to help is to support proper work and salaries for people in developing countries. The main objective of Fairtrade is to promote more just trading with people who have few alternatives, namely farmers from developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Fairtrade logo is a guarantee of compliance with standards that seek to give people in these regions better working and living conditions.
